The Product QA is the facilitator and the conscience of quality, deeply embedded within a product squad. Their role is eminently practical, focusing on ensuring the quality of the entire development process and guaranteeing that all team members adhere to the defined standards. They are the first and last line of defense for quality: the first, by validating the clarity of requirements before development begins, and the last, by building the E2E automated tests that protect the user experience.
As the operational quality agent, the Product QA is responsible for defining the sprint-level testing strategy, preventing defects through early review of user stories (static testing), and acting as the gatekeeper for the Definition of Ready (DoR). Their main coding responsibility is the development and maintenance of End-to-End (E2E) test scripts, which form the critical automated safety net for the product. They are the implementer of the E2E testing strategy and the guardian of quality standards at every stage of the development lifecycle.
Operating within an Agile (Scrum) squad, your daily work will be deeply integrated with the team’s ceremonies and workflow. You will actively participate in requirements definition sessions, applying static testing techniques to user stories and collaborating on clear Acceptance Criteria. A key responsibility will be creating and managing test cases in Xray and signing off on the Definition of Ready (DoR) for stories before they enter development.
Your main technical task will be to code and maintain E2E test scripts in parallel with feature development. You will integrate these automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline and be the first to analyze any failures. You will supervise the tests implemented by developers, perform focused exploratory testing on high-risk areas, and manage the defect lifecycle from detection and triage to final validation. As a collaborator in code reviews, you will provide a quality-focused perspective, ensuring that the tests associated with a Pull Request are relevant and robust.
Your primary reporting and mentorship relationship is with the QA Champion of your domain. They are your go-to technical guide, the person who helps you resolve complex challenges, and to whom you provide quality metrics and updates from your squad.
Your day-to-day work is a close partnership with your squad’s Developers. You will act as their quality coach, supervising their test implementation, doing pair testing, and collaborating in code reviews to ensure quality is built into every feature.
You will work side-by-side with the Product Owner (PO), collaborating on defining clear requirements, writing unambiguous Acceptance Criteria, and triaging defects based on business impact.
You will collaborate with your squad’s Tech Lead, especially during the design phase of new functionalities, to ensure solutions are built with testability in mind from the very beginning.
During the initial stages of feature definition, you will interact with Business Stakeholders alongside the PO to apply static testing techniques and prevent ambiguities before they become development problems.
